Beside me sat an elderly gentleman, nodding off to the rhythm of his newspaper crackling. He wore a tweed coat, frayed but resembling the kind of comfort that comes only from things well-loved. Across from him, a young woman in a vibrant scarf buried her nose in a book, her lips occasionally curling into a smile—a storyline all her own unfolding silently in her head. Just then, a loud crash jolted everyone from their reveries. The barista, a boy no older than twenty and barely managing his way through college, had knocked over a tray.
