Traveler: Morning. I'm Martin Lee. I need to file a claim after problems in Puerto Verde.
Traveler: There was heavy rain and the hotel ceiling leaked. I used a bucket to catch the water and some of my camera equipment got wet.
Insurance Agent: I'm sorry to hear that. Did you have to flee the hotel suddenly?
Traveler: Yes. We had to flee the town when a presidential motorcade and protests blocked the main road.
Traveler: A troop of soldiers then set up checkpoints and those checkpoints strand us for hours.
Insurance Agent: I understand. Our standard policy covers emergency medical expenses to two thousand dollars and evacuation to one thousand five hundred dollars.
Insurance Agent: It also covers lost luggage, but water damage in accommodation is often excluded. Many people flee without receipts and then struggle to prove costs.
Traveler: We tried to save everything. I even put passports in a bucket to keep them dry while we left.
Traveler: Several families fled to the hills. The troop presence was massive and the airport was temporarily closed because of the presidential visit.
Insurance Agent: Troop movements can strand transport routes, yes. To process this claim we need photos, receipts and a police report stating you had to flee because of violence.
