Manager: Morning. Good to see you. How was your weekend? Team Lead: Not bad, thanks. Ready for tomorrow's client presentation. Manager: Right. The main aim is to build trust and develop rapport quickly. Team Lead: Yes. I planned some small talk to develop rapport in the first five minutes. Manager: Perfect. We must build rapport before the slides. Good rapport often leads to repeat business. Team Lead: About appearance, should we tell the team to avoid anything too casual? Manager: Definitely. Last time Laura looked a bit dowdy and the client stared. Team Lead: I noticed she seemed frumpy on the video call as well. Manager: If anyone appears frumpy it can make us seem unprepared. Team Lead: I'll remind them. A dowdy outfit can distract from our message. Manager: Also, the client was cranky on the last call, so tone matters. Team Lead: Right. If the client gets cranky again we should slow down and ask open questions. Manager: Exactly. Open questions help develop rapport and calm a cranky person. Team Lead: Shall I book the conference room? I can get printed agendas too. Manager: Book Conference Room B. And bring coffee and pastries to lighten the mood. Team Lead: Okay. I'll tell the team to avoid frumpy shirts and dowdy accessories. Manager: Good. Practice a few short questions to open the meeting so we can build rapport fast.
