Check-in Agent: Good morning. Welcome to SkyLink check-in. Could I see your boarding pass and ID? Passenger: Hi. My boarding pass won't scan at the kiosk. The machine says it is unrecognized. Check-in Agent: Let me try on my scanner. It shows the barcode as smudged, so it appears unrecognized. Do you have the email ticket? Passenger: Yes. Also, my booking said aisle, but the printed pass shows a generic seat, 23A. Check-in Agent: Sometimes the system assigns a generic seat until final seating. We usually reassign at the gate. Passenger: I'm heading to Lisbon on flight SL204. It leaves at 4:20 from gate 12. Earlier a passenger shouted and called someone a mutineer. Check-in Agent: I heard about that. We treat any mutineer-like behaviour seriously. Staff are trained not to retaliate; we will report it to security. Passenger: That's reassuring. I was worried the situation could get worse. If someone were to retaliate, couldn't a fight ensue? Check-in Agent: Yes. If people retaliate, an argument or scuffle could ensue and the airline would step in. We'll reprint your pass now. Passenger: Thank you. I prefer a window if possible. By the way, the unrecognized barcode is on the paper ticket as well.
