Ms Carter (Year Coordinator): Good afternoon. I'm Ms Carter, the Year 5 coordinator. Thanks for coming in. Mr Alvarez (Parent): Good afternoon. I'm Mr Alvarez. My son Jamie is in your class. Ms Carter (Year Coordinator): Jamie is doing really well. He's made terrific progress in reading and numeracy. Mr Alvarez (Parent): That's terrific to hear. We were at the shore last weekend and he seemed relaxed. Ms Carter (Year Coordinator): I did notice his school reading book had a small tatter on the spine. Mr Alvarez (Parent): Yes, there is a tatter at the corner. We took the book to the beach and it got sand in it. Ms Carter (Year Coordinator): On assessments Jamie scored 85 percent in reading. That result is above the class average. Mr Alvarez (Parent): I thought you said 75 percent the last time we spoke. That surprised me. Ms Carter (Year Coordinator): Sorry, I may have misremembered earlier. Current paperwork shows 85 percent for reading and 78 percent for maths. Mr Alvarez (Parent): We do try to limit screen time. Technology at home is used mainly for homework. Ms Carter (Year Coordinator): We recommend structured technology use. Unsupervised use can reduce concentration in class. Mr Alvarez (Parent): About the shore trip you mentioned, is that the east shore visit next month? Ms Carter (Year Coordinator): Yes, the class will go to the east shore on Friday. We'll send permission slips this week. Mr Alvarez (Parent): Thanks. It's good to know. Overall, 92 percent attendance seems to be the aim, right? Ms Carter (Year Coordinator): We aim high. Attendance targets are around 95 percent, but we accept occasional absences.
