I'm going to talk about modern dating and the role of apps like tinder. Many people think tinder is only for casual flings. Contrary to that belief, some users do find long-term partners through the app. But casual swiping can also decimate a person’s patience for commitment. I don't mean decimate in a literal sense. I mean it in the sense of severely reducing the chance of sustained relationships. A 2014 survey claimed 60 percent of users preferred superficial profiles. That figure is a misleading detail, though, because another poll of 150 people reported a much lower number. Rookies on dating apps often make the same mistakes. A rookie mistake is assuming every match wants the same thing. More experienced users can behave frivolously too. Frivolous messages and jokes sometimes spoil a promising conversation. Contrary evidence exists that deeper profiles produce better matches. Yet even veterans admit they sometimes treat interactions as frivolous entertainment. I advise new users not to panic. Don't act like a rookie by sending only one-word messages. Use honest photos and thoughtful replies. In short, tinder alters behaviour. It can encourage shallow choices and, if unchecked, decimate hard-won trust. But used well, and contrary to the pessimists, it can be a useful tool for serious connections.
