Pasada 1

Escucha a ciegas

Admissions Officer: Good morning. This is the admissions office. May I confirm you are Daniel Park? Applicant: Yes, that's me. Thanks for calling. How is my application looking? Admissions Officer: Overall it's promising, and we appreciated your cordiality in the interview. We did have one request: could you provide some elaboration on your research project methodology? Applicant: Certainly. I can send a two-page elaboration that explains the experiments and data analysis I used. Admissions Officer: Good. Reviewers noted some astringent comments about the clarity of one section. By astringent they meant the feedback was harsh but aimed to improve the statement. Applicant: I see. I thought a few readers might find the locution 'overcoming obstacles' a little clichéd, so I tried a different locution in the final draft. Admissions Officer: That helps. There are also apocryphal rumours floating around that you must have a perfect GPA to get in. Those apocryphal stories aren't true. Applicant: I've heard similar apocryphal tales from seniors, which is why I wanted to be clear in my application. Admissions Officer: Please upload the elaboration and any additional references by June 1. Note also that campus tours are scheduled on Monday mornings if you want a visit; that's separate from the interview timetable. Applicant: I'll upload the documents today. Your cordiality about answering my questions made this easier. Admissions Officer: Thanks. One more note: some reviewers gave astringent but specific suggestions to tighten phrasing, and one even pointed out a locution you might rework. Applicant: Understood. I'll add the elaboration and adjust that phrasing. I appreciate the clarity and your cordiality.
