I work in community outreach for river restoration. Last summer there was a brush fire on the hill near the marsh. Fire crews had to extinguish the flames quickly to protect a nearby wetland. Volunteers also tried to extinguish campfires that were still smouldering after a local festival. The smoke from those blazes created an achromatic haze over the town. The sky looked almost achromatic, as if soot had removed colour from the scene.
